Light Entertainment - Works by Wayne Foskett, Keith Ashley & Desmond Healy: New Show - May 2025

Joint Show by Artists Wayne Foskett, Keith Ashley and Desmond Healy. Featuring Cyanotypes, Etchings and Acrylic Paintings

Works by Wayne Foskett: These images are Cyanotypes - a camera-less photographic technique which involves coating paper with a solution of iron salts, exposing it to sunlight and developing the image in water. The exposed areas turn Prussian blue while the unexposed areas (where a photographic negative or an object has been placed) remain white. The print is then allowed to dry

Wayne has lived and worked in Greenwich since 1990. In this exhibition Wayne explores cyanotypes. About his work: “I find the proximity to the river, its ever changing light conditions, a constant source of inspiration. I generally work with a pinhole camera. I love its serendipitous nature and its ability to capture a Spirit of Place. It can transform the banal into the Poetic.”

"For me, the process of drawing is largely about tenacity. Inspiration comes in a poor second. Confronted with the subject, whether a friend, a life model or a sculpture in the Cast Courts at the V&A, I try to muster my levels of concentration to a point where I'm not distracted by an increasingly noisy mind. I can then start to make a few tentative marks - "Dirtying the paper delicately" as John Ruskin puts it - and hope the Muse catches up, breathless, somewhere down the road.”

Works by Keith Ashley: Unexpected glimpses of gardens inspired these paintings. A rose garden in an alms house on Bankside at night. Seeing a hedge illuminated by camera flashes trained on Kate Moss at a fashion event at Tate Modern. Light on leaves seen through rain on a bus window.

Keith Ashley is a London based artist, he studied at the Norwich School of Art and at Chelsea School of Art. Past exhibitions include: ‘What’s in a Name’, Anthony Reynolds Gallery, London – group show; ‘Eve out of Her Ruins’, Book & Kitchen, London – solo show, and The Crow with Hooligan Art Dealer.

Works by Desmond Healy: The recent etchings are worked from drawings made around London, concentrating on the human figure - people at the start and the end of the day, often weary, lost in their own thoughts or reading, sleeping, dreaming. People from all corners of the earth making their way through the vast city. The process of etching allows these initial scribbles to be transformed through that strange chemistry of copper, wax, acid and ink into something that hopefully gives some sense of lives passing and the uniqueness of the individual.

Desmond Healy is a painter and printmaker based in London. He studied Fine Art at Newcastle University and the Royal College of Art. He was awarded the Ondaatje prize for painting and gold medal from the Royal Society of Portrait Painters and has exhibited at the National Potrait Gallery and the Royal Academy of Arts Summer exhibition multiple times. Desmond is an associate of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers and works at the Thames-side studios in Woolwich.
